Do I need to see a doctor first?

No, chartered physiotherapists are trained in the assessment and treatment of physical problems. If I feel I need more information or feel you may need medical investigations I will ask you to contact your GP.

Can I come for private physiotherapy whilst on the NHS waiting list?

Yes. I am happy to pass on information to your NHS physiotherapist when your appointment comes through. You cannot have both treatments at the same time.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies and is not always easy to predict at the initial assessment. As a general rule the longer you have had a problem the longer it takes to sort out. Most problems will settle in about 4-6 sessions

How often will I need to come?

This will depend on your problem.

• Some people will be able to manage their problem after the initial assessment, treatment and advice.

• Some more acute problems would benefit from being seen twice a week initially to help influence the healing process.

• Some chronic problems may need once a week initially and then once a month to keep the problem under control.

• Some problems involving muscle weakness or joint stiffness may need specific exercises and may need 2 to 3 weeks practice before review and progression of the regime.

As a Chartered Physiotherapist I will be able to advise you what we feel would be best for your problem but the decision regarding further treatment is ultimately your own.
